A fixed-term deposit is a savings account where you agree to leave money with a bank or provider for a set period in return for interest, usually with less flexibility than an instant-access account. Check when the term ends, how and when interest is paid, whether early withdrawals are allowed, and what notice or charges may apply. Deposit protection may apply, but the rules and limits should be confirmed with the provider or the Deposit Guarantee Scheme. Interest may also be subject to DIRT, so check the current position with Revenue or Citizens Information.
